Please welcome Emily! She is 29 and will be 30 in April and will celebrate her 10th anniversary in July. She has 3 boys - 7, 6 and 4. Emily says, "I live in Texas, but don't consider myself a Texan!" You will have to take a few minutes to check out her website. It is wonderful! Emily is a member of Gina K Designs Senior Design Team, Darcy Baldwin's Creative Team (fonts @ The Digi Chick), and Christina Renee Designs (CRD)'s Hybrid Team.
I also asked Emily a few questions I thought would be fun to hear answers to.
How did you get started with crafts?
I got started a little over 4 years ago when my sister, Kimberly, showed up at my door and said "we're going to make cards!". I was immediately hooked and it's spiraled from there! I had never done anything crafty or artistic prior to that. I love that I can make things that brighten people's day and I've always loved sending cards.
How much time per day do you spend on your crafts? Is it enough? :)
I spend anywhere from 30 mins to update my blog to 5 hours making things. It just depends! No, it's never enough because I always have a massive "to do" list and a closet full of future projects.
What is your favorite craft item to use or project to make?
Card related - I most like to watercolor. I find it very therapeutic to sit down with my reinkers and a niji waterbrush and watercolor.
Digitally - I most like to scrap a great shot of the three boys smiling together.
Altered - I love altering pretty much anything. I don't like things with lots of itty bitty details - I like the "big picture" items. Anything where I get to choose pretty papers!
Where do you get your inspiration (for your stamp creating or card making)?
I get my inspiration from other card makers - I peruse blogs and such and I bookmark cards that jump out at me.
Do you have any advice for fellow crafters out there? Words of wisdom, perhaps? :)I don't know about wisdom, but I can share what has helped me grow as a paper crafter. I know that I 'grew' the most by doing challenges. SCS has daily ones and that really helped me think outside my comfort zone. By using colors or techniques I might not normally use. Sometimes the results are awful - especially when I first started - but the more you do them, the easier it gets and the more I liked my results. I also picked different elements of other cards that I liked and then tried to incorporate them in my own work. I would start by pretty much copying the entire card. Then I would try it again with a few differences. And so on until I could use whatever the new element was (layout, technique, product, etc) on my own.
I have included a few pictures of her work for you to admire! It was so hard to pick just a few. But I have to give you only a small taste so you go to her page and check out all of her fabulous items!
I hope you have enjoyed meeting Emily and Featured Crafter Friday. If you would like to be featured, please send me an email! I would be more than happy to include you! See you next Friday for another wonderful crafter!
